WordPress Critical Error — Diagnosed & Fixed
Site down. Business offline. Back live before lunch.
The Problem
At 9am, a client's WordPress site showed one of the most feared screens in web development:
"There has been a critical error on this website."
No homepage. No wp-admin. No way in. Their business was invisible online — losing visitors, revenue, and search rankings by the hour.
The Diagnosis
After gaining secure server access, I pulled the PHP error logs to identify the exact failure point. The culprit: a plugin conflict triggering a PHP fatal error that cascaded into a full site crash.
No guessing. No trial-and-error. Just clean, log-driven diagnosis.
The Fix
→ Isolated and disabled the conflicting plugin via FTP
→ Restored wp-admin access and verified all core functions
→ Ran a full site health check — themes, plugins, database
→ Delivered a written incident report with the root cause
→ Implemented a prevention checklist to stop recurrence
The Result
✅ Site fully live: under 3 hours
✅ Data lost: zero
✅ Recurrence since: none
The client also received a clear, non-technical explanation of what happened and how to avoid it — because fixing the problem is only half the job.
